MATLAB as aprogramming language was developed by Clive Moulerom (Cleve Moler) inthe late 1970s, when he was Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science atthe University of New Mexico. The development objective of the taskserved as the faculty to give students the opportunity to use softwarelibraries Linpack and EISPACK without having to learn Fortran. Soon, anew language has spread to other universities and was greeted with greatinterest by scientists working in the field of applied mathematics.Until now, the Internet can find a version in 1982, written in Fortran,is open-source software. Engineer John Little (born John N. (Jack)Little) met with the language during a visit to Clive Moulera StanfordUniversity in 1983. Realizing that the new language has great commercialpotential, he teamed up with Clive and Steve Bangert Moulerom (SteveBangert). Together, they rewrote MATLAB in C and founded in 1984 fromThe MathWorks for further development. These re-written in C librarieshave long been known as the JACKPAC. Originally intended for the MATLABdesign of control systems (the main specialty of John Little), butquickly gained popularity in many other scientific and engineeringfields. It is also widely used in education, in particular, for theteaching of linear algebra and numerical methods. Language MATLAB is ahigh-interpreted programming language, including matrices based on datastructures, a wide range of functions, an integrated developmentenvironment, object-oriented capabilities and interfaces to programswritten in other programming languages.
Programs written inMATLAB, are of two types - functions and scripts. Functions have inputand output arguments, as well as your own work space to storeintermediate results of calculations and variables. The scripts also usea common workspace. As scripts and functions are not compiled intomachine code and saved as text files. There is also an option to savethe so-called pre-parsed programs - roles and scripts that are processedinto a form suitable for machine execution. In general, such programsrun faster than normal, especially if the function contains commands forplotting. The main feature of MATLAB is the language of hisopportunities to work with matrices, which are the creators of thelanguage expressed in the slogan Think vector (Think vectorized).MathWorks MATLAB is the foundation of all MathWorks family of productsis the main tool for solving a wide range of scientific and appliedproblems in areas such as modeling facilities and development of controlsystems, design of communication systems, signal and image processing,measurement signals and testing, financial modeling , computationalbiology, and others.
