Review: This is an average recording of the Schumann trios. The sound-quality is o.k. And the ensemble plays well together.And theyr playing is enjoyable. Only when you look at the scores you will find that the playing is not entirely satisfactory. Especially the pianist appears to be little shy and timid-there is hardly the "crazy" schumann found here, nore the passion! Their renditions come little irritating due their overtly "pretty" way of playing these works.
These trios arent so popular compared to other of Schumanns chamber-works (especially the piano-quartets and- quintet). I found these trios charming and interesting, and couse there arent so many recordings available, i guess this one by the trio florestan is an o.k. choise.
Just beware that it might leave a little misguiding view of these works.

The Eroica Trio's recording of the Beethoven Triple with the Prague Chamber Orchestra was so successful it landed this piece on Billboards Top 20 for the first time in recording history. The Trio appeared on the German television program "Klassich!" performing the Beethoven Triple Concerto with the Munich Symphony, which was aired throughout Europe.

Review: I despise most CDs with titles like this one has, but have to admit that as a sampler, its not bad at all. Some great orchestras, conductors, etc. A drawback is that they are not identified, but the excerpts are wonderful, nonetheless. Piano Concerto
5, for instance, is excellent. Havent a clue who is playing, but its more than adequate. The entire CD is uniformly well selected, so kudos to the producers for giving us a really good intro to the music of "the" genius of 19th century composition.

The Beethoven piano trios have been at the hub of the Beaux Arts Trio's repertoire throughout its long history. Despite a series of personnel switches, the group's approach to Beethoven has remained outstandingly consistent for more than 40 years. The first ever Beaux Arts Beethoven set is currently available in Philips' "The Early Years" series. It was produced during the mid-1960s and did not include transcriptions of the Op. 20 Septet or Second symphony. When Isador Cohen replaced founding violinist Daniel Guilet in 1968, the group (which also included the pianist Menahem Pressler, longest serving member of the ensemble, and cellist Bernard Greenhouse) would not return to Beethoven for another decade.

Review: I first heard Pletnev playing the Waldstein sonata on an FM radio station while I was driving, and I HAD to buy his recording! His Moonlight and Appassionata sonatas are excellent, but I would recommend you listen carefully to the first movement of his Waldstein: he tremelo playing is so rapid and even that he can create the illusion of a sustained note and then, as he plays alternately softer and louder on that note, he creates an illusion that no piano can really produce: "swelling" in volume. In reality (as most people already know), the pedals of a piano can let a player take a note from loud to soft--but not (unlike many OTHER instruments, such as organs or violins or horns) from soft to loud.
I own about 50 CDs with Beethoven's piano sonatas on them, and I have never heard anything like this. I have repeatedly listened to 18 other famous pianists playing the Waldstein, and a few come close to this effect, perhaps deliberately, perhaps by chance. I have spoken with several pianists about this, and they have found it a very remarkable and interesting way of playing.
Two of my friends prefer the playing of Emile Gilels, but I would travel 50 miles to hear Pletnev play Beethoven.

Angela Hewitt is noted for her fine Bach and Chabrier recordings. Here she turns to Beethoven, with fine performances of three sonatas from his early and middle periods. The Sonata No. 4 is notable for the brio of her interpretation; the first movement is especially cogent in her avoidance of extremes. The "Appassionata" comes off well, too, as Hewitt clarifies inner voices and generates excitement in the outer movements.
