David Noton is one of the UKs leading landscape and travel photographers, and someone who has worked with LEE filters for many years, including supplying images for their advertising.
Chasing the Light is a 90 minute programme presented by David Noton, that explores the essentials of location photography, location finding, previsualisation, understanding natural light, composition and colour. The film examines the development of a photographic vision with practical hands on demonstrations, insights and examples at a number of inspiring locations and dramatic settings from a misty dawn at Glastonbury to the cliffs of Lands End and the autumnal glens of the New Forest in the south of England.
What is it? Youve seen his pictures and read his astute scribblings every month in this magazine, and now hes appearing in full live view in Noton the Movie. Yep, the man behind the lens has become the man in front of it as he takes you on a guided tour of life as a landscape pro and opens up many of the tricks of the trade along the way.
Is it any good? Well, yes. Its beautifully filmed and well-edited. The stunning scenes and amazing conditions that Mr Noton experiences just make you want to grab a camera and get out there. His presentation style is pretty true to the man himself. Chasing the light is an inspiring piece of instruction. After watching the DVD I actually considered getting out of bed before dawn, which is a lot for someone who normally takes all their pictures after dark. The quality of the images, backed by Davids matter-of-fact presenting and easy-to-understand advice make the price tag of just under twenty pounds seem very reasonable indeed.
