The Yamaha QS300 is a very rich-sounding synthesizer, because it uses a multi-layer structure, every layer has its own envelope, filter, etc. We can create wonderful pads, endless morphing textures and some other warm and fat patches... but!
If you record these sounds, you will loose the possibility of alteration later: you can not change the parameters of each layer independently, only for the whole mixed samples. It's just like a snapshot... sounds good but less versatile.
Instead of this method, we have choosen a more complicated way. The QS300 uses small parts (in Yamaha terminology: elements) to build its sound: every layer is based on an element. We broke down the sounds of the QS300 to these elements, recorded all of them, and then we completely rebuilt the multilayered patches in NNXT.
The result was very surprising for us and defenitely it proves the power of NNXT advanced sampler!:) The NNXT provides a lot of very sophisticated options, many of these features and nuances probably remain hidden from the users unless somebody programs NNXT for 8 months on every blessed day...;-)

Back in 1986, there weren't many good ways to take a good keyboard sounds with you while touring. Sampled pianos were in their infancy, with extremely low samplerates and small ROM sizes. One answer to this problem was SAS synthesis. This unique form of synthesis uses no samples whatsover, and produces a very realistic sound. Still, its not a 'real piano', so these days the sound is more useful for its retro character. It still sounds great!
MK Digital Keys brings this retro sound to your modern sampler, while removing original limitations like polyphony and noise. This is an extremely comprehensive sampling, with 6 samples per octave, 7 octaves, and 6 velocity layers per note. All 8 tones of the MKS are represented (3 pianos, 2 EPs, Clav, Harp and Vibes). All of this comprises a total of nearly 2100 mono 24-bit 44khz samples!
MK Digital Keys is built to be scalable. At times due to CPU/RAM constraints, you won't have need for the full extent of the sampling described above, . For those times, 3 alternate smaller versions of each tone are contained inside - L, M and S sizes. The S versions weigh in at under 50mb and can fit into even the most RAM-starved projects.

Why ORANGE?
The name comes from the colour of the original synth: the German Waldorf Microwave XT is a legend! There is nothing like its sound, and it has inspired a lots of performers since its appearance in 1995.
Microwave XT is a virtual analogue instrument, which produces the sound by using the spectral wavetable synthesis developed by Waldorf, and combines it with 10 types of special "Waldorf" filters.
Contents of the multisamples
The multisample library (included) can be used with other samplers like Kontakt or EXS24. All samples are perfectly looped and contain the unity note information for quick auto-mapping. We use multisamples: it means that every layer consists of 12 wav files from C2 to A6.
Simple Oscillators (2221 samples - 280 MB)
These small multisamples are quite similar to PROTON’s oscillators: simple waveforms and morphing wavetables of Waldorf Microwave. Using them in a multilayer structure you can get fantastic sounding patches.
Complex Sounds (1321 samples - 1350 MB)
Complex sounds are very rich sounding Microwave XT sounds. Consequently they are quite large. We recorded different filter settings, velocity variations to get a wide range of dynamic, vivid sounds.

One of the big news in Reason Drum Kits 2.0 are the producer kits. A number of name producers and engineers were asked to use Drum Kits 2 and Reason's EQs, compressors and effects to reproduce the secret working methods and signal paths that shape their signature drum sound. Simply load up any Producer Kit Combinator patch for that instant professional drum sound.
